3 Tips For A Safe Hookup

Tips for a safe hookup

We’ve all been there. You’ve been swiping right, or chatting on a site like FetLife, and it’s finally time to take things to the next level. You’re excited, but underneath that excitement there’s a hint of trepidation. A worry that something might go wrong… a tinge of danger. Don’t ignore that feeling. There’s nothing wrong with hooking up, but if you’re going to do it, make sure you follow a few basic safety procedures.

#1: Always Meet In A Public Place First

Whether it’s at a coffee shop, a park, or near that quaint corner store, make sure you meet somewhere other than your prospective hook-up’s place first if you’ve never seen them in-person before. You want to get a sense of who they are, and make sure there aren’t any red flags going up before you turn up at their door where there’s no one around to see you. And if they get snippy about meeting in public, well that’s a red flag all by itself.

#2: Ask About STDs

There is no delicate way to bring up someone’s history of STDs… but you still need to do it. Be open and forthcoming about your own history, and make sure you’re getting the same from your potential hook-up. To be extra safe, you can even exchange recent tests to prove that you’re both clean. While that might make it feel less like a romance and more like a business transaction, it can go a long way toward putting your mind at ease.

#3: Use Protection

No matter who you’re hooking up with, or where you’re doing it, always use protection. You cannot be too safe, and if your partner gives you shit about it, then they might not be the kind of person you want to be getting intimate with in the first place. And if they pressure you to be unsafe, walk away. That’s not a good look on anyone.

These are just a few basics for how you can have better, safer hook-ups. For more advice on keeping yourself clean when you get dirty, simply contact us today!
